Anna Teichmüller (Göttingen 1861 - Schreiberhau 1940) is a female composer who, although born in Göttingen, connects her life and work with our region. She lived in the artists' colony of the small town of Schreiberhau in the Giant Mountains, now Sklarska Poręba, which is part of Poland. She chose this place after meeting and befriending Carl Hauptmann, Gerhart Hauptmann's brother, in Jena. In Schreiberhau, she joined the artistic circle around Carl Hauptmann and set numerous of the poet's poems to music. This music was completely unknown until a few years ago. Various initiatives, including the Ars Augusta e.V. association (which also initiated this competition), began to explore her work. The association published two anthologies of the composer's songs. Some of them were even included in the repertoire of the 2024 Lieder competition and were selected and performed by several participants. Here Theano Papadaki and Thomas Eckhout sing the song “Erdenkindleins Wiegenlied”.

In the 2026 edition, we present three Christmas carols by the composer. The Op. 31 songs are based on poems by Armin von Keller ("Vor der Weihnachtstür") and Karl Hauptmann ("Weihnacht"), while the third ("Weihnachtslied" Op. 16) is based on an old text (Michael Vehe's hymnal from 1537): "Nun singet und seid froh" (In dolci jubilo).

In June 2025, Mr. Sven Alexis Fischer and Mr. Rüdiger Stolle informed us about an Ave Maria Op. 51 by Anna Teichmüller. A transcription into modern musical notation was made, and the song became part of the competition's repertoire.

In this way, the composer's songs consist of four items.

Participants can request the complete collection of Anna Teichmüller's songs free of charge (contact please arsaugusta@gmail.com).

The sheet music for the three songs can be downloaded here.
