Alison Lau

Soprano

Year of birth:

1987

Soprano  Alison Lau is from Hong Kong, and is currently based in Amsterdam.  After graduating from the New England Conservatory in Boston and the  Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, she joined Opera Hong Kong as a  young artist in 2015, and became the first classical singer in Hong Kong  to record with Universal Music and Decca Records, to promote classical  music on mass media platforms. Alison also collaborated frequently with  baroque ensembles and curated art song recitals for the audience in Hong  Kong. During that time, she has discovered a special affinity for early  music and poetry and song. In 2018, Alison was invited to sing with Al  Ayre Español in Berliner Philharmonie, and that experience eventually  led Alison to relocate to Europe. In 2021, Alison moved to Amsterdam to  specialize in Historical Performance at the Conservatorium van  Amsterdam. Since then she has performed with Ton Koopman's Amsterdam  Baroque Orchestra & Choir, Nederlandse Bachvereniging under the  leadership of Shunske Sato and Masato Suzuki, and most recently made her  Belgium debut as a soloist with Il Gardellino conducted by Peter van  Heyghen.

In 2018 Alison has won the “Gerhart Hauptmann-Theater”  Special Prize at the 22nd Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici  Spazio Musica, and was subsequently invited to sing Ein Deutsches  Requiem by Brahms in Görlitz. Her performance in that concert tour was  hailed by the Sächsische Zeitung: die junge, in Hong Kong geborene und  in Boston ausgebildete Alison Lau gehört.

Alison has also been awarded the First Prize at  Yokohama International Music Competition in Japan, and the Outstanding  Performance Award at the Metropolitan International Music Festival Vocal  Competition in New York. In 2017 she was awarded the Certificate of  Commendation by the Hong Kong Government’s Home Affairs Bureau.
