Dear musician,
We congratulate you on your selection as a participant in the 2nd International Lied Competition “Bolko von Hochberg” and wish you that this experience enriches your musical career. Here you will find information such as the program for the First Round, the addresses of the locations and practice rooms in Görlitz/Zgorzelec as well as recommendations for planning the trip to Görlitz and accommodation.

The journey to Görlitz-Zgorzelec
Eco-Friendly: Train & Bus
Görlitz train station is directly connected by train to the following cities: Dresden (1 hour, 10 minutes), Cottbus (1 hour, 10 minutes), Berlin (with a change in Cottbus, 2 hours, 40 minutes), Wroclaw (1 hour, 40 minutes), Liberec (change in Zittau, 1 hour, 20 minutes). In Germany, a monthly train ticket price of €49 applies to all regional trains. The bus company Flixbus connects Görlitz with all cities in Europe. There are direct connections from Brussels and Warsaw. A trip to Görlitz by train or bus can be combined with a visit to other historical cities on the Via Regia ancient route that connects some of Europe's most important cultural sites between East and West.
By plane
The closest international airports to Görlitz are Berlin Brandenburg Airport and the Nicolaus Copernicus Airport in Wrocław, but also Dresden and Prague. There is a train connection from Berlin Brandenburg Airport to Görlitz via Cottbus (approx. 3 hours). From Wrocław Nicolaus Copernicus Airport there is a bus (109 or 129) that goes to Wrocław train station or other nearby train stations (40 min, ticket 1€). From Wroclaw there is a train to Zgorzelec and Görlitz (1 hour and 40 minutes, price around €10). Use please Google Maps for exact Info.
We particularly recommend this route, also to avoid possible problems such as strikes at Deutsche Bahn.

Accomodation in Görlitz-Zgorzelec
On Booking and AirBnB you can find several accommodation options on both the German and Polish sides of the city. We would like to draw the musician's attention to the fact that there is a supermarket chain in Poland (Żabka) that is open all day (until 10 p.m.) even on weekends. Here you will find our recommendations for accommodation in Görlitz-Zgorzelec.
PEREGRINUS
The youth hostel at Langenstrasse 37 is located directly in the old town and is a former university for church music. Two halls with pianos also serve as practice rooms. You can also use a kitchen. Parkhotel
The hotel is located at Bolko-von-Hochberg-Str.2 and is very close to Dom Kultury and the Stadthalle Görlitz. Participants can book a double room for €83.50. ink. breakfast and for 63.50 book a single room + breakfast. The offer is valid until April 12th (to the mail empfang@parkhotel-goerlitz.de under the keyword "Liedwettbewerb".
Zur WARTBURG
The “Zur Wartburg” guesthouse offers affordable rooms and is not far from the Dom Kultury and the Stadthalle. The hostel also has a music hall with grand piano that can be used for rehearsals and provides guests with a shared kitchen. There are actually still free rooms, we reccomend to book as soon as possible.
Practice rooms
Music School "Johann Adam Hiller"
The music school in Görlitz is a partner of the competition: It is located at Am Fischmarkt 6. There are three rooms available as practice rooms (No. 14, No. 15 and the concert hall). Use is limited in time: all day on Sunday, May 26th. From Monday 27.5 to Friday 31.5. from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Ars Augusta e.V.
The headquarters of Ars Augusta e.V. at Augustastraße 6 offers a practice room from May 26th to 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Peregrinus Jugendherberge
PEREGRINUS at Langenstrasse 37 is offering two practice rooms from May 26th to 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Miejski Dom Kultury and Kleiner Saal der Stadthalle
The musicians can familiarize themselves with the acoustics in the competition's two event rooms when the halls are not in use (9:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., 1:30 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.). The small hall of the town hall (Kleiner Saal der Stadthalle) will also be available for rehearsals on May 29th.
