The Chinese bass Yang Xu was born in Hegang in 1985. In 2003 he began studying at the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. From 2013 to 2015 he was a member of the opera studio at the STATE THEATER KARLSRUHE.
He has been a member of the STATE THEATER ensemble since 2016, where he has performed, among other things, as Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Fasolt in Rhinegold, Timur in Turandot, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, hermit in free shooter, Lord Rochefort in Anna Bolena, king in Aida,Publio inThe Clemenza of Tito Leporello in Don Giovanni, Elviro in Serse as well as Somnus in Semele,Il Re in Aida was on stage. In 2023 he completed his soloist exam in song design with Prof. Mitsuko Shirai and Prof. Hartmut Höll at the HFM Karlsruhe

Mariko Sakonju, born in 1991 in Tokyo/Japan. In 2014 she completed her bachelor's degree in piano with Prof. Keiko Takeuchi at the Toho-Gakuen University of Music in Tokyo, from 2015 to 2017 she completed her master's degree in piano with Prof. Gunnar Nauck at the HfM Dresden, and from 2017 to 2020 she completed her master's degree in song with Prof. Cornelis Witthoefft at the HMDK Stuttgart. Since 2020 she has been studying the song soloist examination with Prof. Hartmut Höll and Prof. Dr. h.c. Mitsuko Shirai at the HfM Karlsruhe. In 2021 she won first prize with the soprano Yibao Chen at the 28th International Johannes Brahms Competition Pörtschach, and in 2022 she won second prize with the soprano Yue Wang at the Rainer Koch Memorial Prize for the best interpretation of a Wolfgang Rihm work.
