Special prize from the Museum of Romanticism

Updated: Feb 7

Dresden is a city with an important musical history. It began in the Renaissance with the founding of the Dresdner Musikalische Kapelle (Hofkapelle) in 1548 by Maurice of Saxony, which soon reached its first peak under Heinrich Schütz. Today it bears the name “Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden”.

The legacy of Baroque music in Dresden is equally important, particularly from the reign of the Saxon King of Poland August III. But also in the Classical and Romantic periods, important composers such as Carl Maria von Weber, Robert and Clara Schumann, E.T.A. Hoffmann, Ferdinando Paer, Richard Wagner worked in the city, which Caspar David Friedrich made his adopted home.

The Museum of Romanticism (Museum der Romantik) in Dresden under the direction of Dr. Romy Donath regularly organizes concerts and Liederabende in the Museum Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Haus and in the house of the painter Kügelgen.

For a song duo from the finale, Dr. Donath offered the possibility of a song recital in the Kügelgenhaus in year 2025. This is how the musicologist describes the house:

The Kügelgenhaus - Museum of Dresden Romanticism is one of the few authentic places in Dresden where you can experience the salon culture of the 19th century. The artist's apartment of the painter Gerhard von Kügelgen (1772-1820) impresses with its atmospheric rooms, paintings and objects that reflect the Romantic period. The restored Hammerflügel from 1830 also brings the romantic atmosphere to life in terms of sound.
