Bartosz Żurakowski is a renowned Polish conductor, born in Opole. He is regarded as one of the outstanding representatives of his generation and is praised for his “singing” interpretive style, particularly highlighted by Prof. Jerzy Marchwiński.
He studied conducting at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and music pedagogy at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź. Additionally, he completed management studies at the University of Warsaw and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Rotterdam School of Management in 2011. Żurakowski participated in international masterclasses, including those with Kurt Masur and Marek Tracz, and is a prizewinner of the International Witold Lutosławski Conducting Competition.
His career began in 2001 at the Filharmonia Opolska, where he initially worked as an assistant, later as conductor and manager. In 2007, he re-founded the choir of the Filharmonia Opolska and led it. Since September 2016, Bartosz Żurakowski has been the Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Symphony Orchestra of the Filharmonia Sudecka in Wałbrzych.
In addition to symphonic music, he is particularly dedicated to oratorios and operas. He has made international guest appearances, including with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow (Verdi’s Requiem in 2014 and Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in 2015), as well as with orchestras in Poland and abroad. Żurakowski leads the Wrocław Festival Orchestra Johann Strauss at concerts in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the International BelleVoci Festival.
In 2021, he was honored with the distinction “Meritorious for Polish Culture” (Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej). Bartosz Żurakowski is a sought-after juror at international competitions and combines artistic excellence with managerial expertise.
