Ewa Biegas, born on March 3, 1977, in Cieszyn, Poland, is a renowned Polish soprano and educator. She completed her training at the music school in Gliwice (singing and violin) and at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, where she graduated with honors in 1999 under Prof. Jan Ballarin. She continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Prof. Helena Łazarska.
Her career encompasses over 30 leading opera roles, including Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Halka in Moniuszko’s Halka, Leonora in Verdi’s La forza del destino, Liza in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades, and Tosca. Since 2020, she has also performed as a mezzo-soprano, for example in Alek Nowak’s Mermaid. Ewa Biegas has appeared as a guest at prestigious venues such as the Kammeroper Wien, Opéra de Montréal, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence.
As a laureate of numerous competitions—including 1st Prize at the International Singing Competition in Trnava (1998), 3rd Prize at the Stanisław Moniuszko Competition in Warsaw (2004), and finalist at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World (2006)—she received scholarships from the Polish Ministry of Culture and the Austrian government. She has made recordings for radio and television in Poland and Europe.
Since 2004, Ewa Biegas has taught as a professor of solo singing at the Academy of Music in Katowice, where she has served as Dean of the Faculty of Vocal and Acting since 2019. In 2021, she was appointed Professor by the President of Poland. Her repertoire spans from historical to contemporary music, and she is a highly regarded juror at international competitions.
