Born in 1959 in Hirschberg/Saale, Reinhard Seeliger has devoted his life to the “Queen of Instruments”. He studied organ at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Weimar under Johannes Schäfer, complemented by masterclasses with Ferenc Gergely (Budapest), Milán Šlechta (Prague) and Matthias Eisenberg (Weimar).
From 1985 to 1994 he taught as a lecturer at the Protestant Church Music School in Görlitz, serving as its Rector from 1994 to 2008. Since 1990 he has been Kantor of the magnificent Peterskirche in Görlitz, shaping the city’s sacred and musical life. Since 1996 he has led the Görlitz Bach Choir and the Görlitz Bach Weeks with great dedication.
His extensive concert career has taken him across Europe, to Canada and the United States – as a solo organist, in chamber duos (including horn & organ with Manfred Dippmann, four-hand organ with Henri Ormières and Alice Graf), and in collaboration with distinguished orchestras. Numerous CD recordings, radio and television appearances bear witness to his versatile artistry.
As long-time chairman of the “Freundeskreis Görlitzer Sonnenorgel” e.V., Reinhard Seeliger was the driving force behind the reconstruction of the famous Görlitz Sun Organ, which he has served as principal organist since 1997. He also acts as organ consultant for the Protestant Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia, jury member of the International Organ Competition “André Marchal” in Biarritz, and chairman of the Association for the Research and Preservation of Silesian Organs e.V. (VEESO). Since 1 October 2021 he has been District Kantor of the Church District of Silesian Upper Lusatia.
Reinhard Seeliger unites outstanding technical mastery with profound musical passion and an unwavering commitment to preserving the rich Silesian organ heritage.
